About the work -「イナイナイアート」茅野市民館 / “Inainai Art” Chino Cultural Complex(Chino City, Japan)(2020.3)

This work was created for Inainai Art, an exhibition in which artworks are hidden throughout the Chino Cultural Complex, a cultural facility in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture, like a game of hide-and-seek, and discovered by visitors.

For this exhibition, I chose the library inside the Cultural Complex as the exhibition site and installed book-shaped works there.
These works were made from materials such as old illustrated books from my home, book covers, bookmarks, and promotional cards that had been attached to books belonging to my late father—objects that were once read but have long since fallen out of use. By combining and reconstructing these materials, I re-formed them into the shape of books.
The work places these reborn “unread” books among books that continue to be actively read by visitors today, allowing them to reappear in a different form within the space of the library.
